CAD Designer

We are seeking a CAD Operator to join our contracting team. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with both computers and people, has strong attention to detail, and can translate technical drawings into accurate CAD models and manufacturing documentation. The successful candidate will work closely with engineering, manufacturing, and shop-floor personnel to develop models, drawings, sheet-metal flat patterns, and process documentation while helping resolve manufacturing issues as they arise.

Responsibilities:

• Create accurate 3D CAD models from 2D technical drawings.
• Create check drawings from CAD models to verify dimensional and geometric accuracy.
• Develop flat blanks/flat patterns for sheet-metal components.
• Create process drawings for parts that will be formed, machined, or otherwise manufactured.
• Interpret engineering drawings, dimensions, notes, and specifications.
• Apply geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) principles.
• Communicate directly with shop-floor personnel and other departments to understand manufacturing requirements and resolve issues.
• Make drawing or model adjustments based on manufacturing feedback.
• Maintain accurate, organized CAD files and technical documentation.
• Support manufacturing and engineering activities as needed.

Required Qualifications:

• Strong work ethic, reliability, and personal accountability.
• Ability to read and interpret technical/engineering drawings.
• Working understanding of GD&T.
• Familiarity with SolidWorks or comparable CAD software.
• Basic understanding of manufacturing processes, including: machining, drilling and tapping, welding, press-brake forming.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to communicate effectively with engineers, machinists, fabricators, and other shop personnel.
• Friendly, outgoing, and calm personality with the ability to work effectively in a hands-on manufacturing environment.

The following experience is preferred but not required:

• Knowledge of common engineering and manufacturing materials.
• Understanding of fixture design principles.
• Experience with Mastercam.
• Experience creating manufacturing or process documentation.
• Previous experience working in a machine shop, fabrication environment, or manufacturing setting.
• Experience supporting defense, aerospace, or other highly regulated manufacturing environments.
