About the Role:

The Hazmat CDL Driver plays a critical role in the safe and efficient transportation of hazardous materials across various locations within the United States. This position requires strict adherence to federal, state, and local regulations governing the handling and transport of hazardous substances to ensure public safety and environmental protection. The driver is responsible for the secure loading, transportation, and unloading of hazardous materials, maintaining compliance with all safety protocols and documentation requirements. This role demands a high level of vigilance, professionalism, and expertise in operating commercial vehicles equipped for hazardous cargo. Ultimately, the Hazmat CDL Driver ensures that hazardous materials reach their destinations safely, on time, and in full compliance with all regulatory standards. Minimum Qualifications:

• Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Hazmat endorsement.
• Clean driving record with no major violations in the past three years.
• Knowledge of and compliance with DOT regulations for hazardous materials transportation.
• Ability to pass background checks and drug screening as required by federal regulations.
• Physical ability to perform vehicle inspections, load/unload materials, and handle emergency situations.
• Tanker Endorsement 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience driving commercial vehicles with hazardous materials for at least two years.
• Familiarity with GPS and electronic logging devices (ELDs).
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
• Completion of advanced safety training or certifications related to hazardous materials handling.

Responsibilities:

• Operate commercial motor vehicles to transport hazardous materials safely and efficiently.
• Inspect vehicles before and after trips to ensure mechanical safety and compliance with regulations.
• Load and unload hazardous materials following strict safety procedures and guidelines.
• Maintain accurate records of shipments, including manifests, logs, and inspection reports.
• Comply with all Department of Transportation (DOT) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations related to hazardous materials transport.
• Communicate effectively with dispatchers, customers, and regulatory agencies regarding shipment status and any issues encountered.
• Respond promptly and appropriately to emergencies or incidents involving hazardous materials during transit.
• Participate in ongoing training and certification programs to stay current with safety standards and regulations.

Skills:

The Hazmat CDL Driver utilizes their driving skills daily to operate large commercial vehicles safely under various road and weather conditions. Their knowledge of hazardous materials regulations ensures that all transportation activities comply with legal and safety standards, minimizing risks to themselves and the public. Effective communication skills are essential for coordinating with dispatch, customers, and emergency responders, especially when addressing unexpected situations. Attention to detail is critical when inspecting vehicles, handling documentation, and following loading procedures to prevent accidents or regulatory violations. Additionally, problem-solving abilities enable the driver to respond swiftly and appropriately to any incidents or challenges encountered during transport.
